Organizers of the 37th Annual Kingdom Day Parade are making the health and safety of parade goers and participants their top priority by implementing strict Covid protocols
Los Angeles, CA — Dr. Adrian Dove, Chairman of the Kingdom Day Parade, and CORE-CA, is excited to announce the 37th Annual Kingdom Day Parade will be held in-person on Monday, January 17, 2022, at 10 am, in Los Angeles, CA. The annual celebration was held virtually last year due to Covid 19, but in 2022 organizers welcome back all the great floats, event participants, and more than all, the Angelinos that come out and support the parade each year. The 37th Annual Kingdom Day Parade will be back on the streets of Los Angeles with Congresswoman Karen Bass as the 2022 Grand Marshall leading the three (3) mile spectacular. The theme of this year’s parade is “Healing America” a sentiment that will be reflected in all areas of the parade which includes enforcing safety protocols to combat the spread of the Coronavirus. Media partner KABC Channel 7 will again broadcast live, what has become an annual community tradition of unity and racial equality, with a strong emphasize on the health and wellness of all who attend the parade and any of its related events.
Parade participants include: 2022 Grand Marshal of the Kingdom Day Parade, Congresswoman Karen Bass, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (walking the 3-mile parade route as she’s done for many years), Los Angeles Police Chief Michael Moore, Big Boy (iHeart Radio), and many more.
“The elephant in the room this year is Covid. We’re making sure we take all precautions and go above and beyond to keep participants and spectators safe by following all state and local health protocols during this unprecedented time. Safety is our Highest Priority!” said Dr. Dove, Parade Chairman. “We are planning to bring the community together and have the best parade ever by implementing safety measures given to us by specialist and following all CDC guidelines. Our theme, ‘Healing America’ places health and safety at the forefront of the parade and will continue to be a theme woven throughout all we do in 2022,” he continued.
The 37th Annual Kingdom Day Parade began over 35 years ago as a small local community event to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It begins the 3-mile spectacular on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd & Western Avenue and ends on Crenshaw Blvd and W. Vernon Ave. This Los Angeles tradition has grown into a major media and spectator event with broadcast coverage reaching an audience of over 2.5 million viewers.
This year’s Grand Marshall is Congresswoman Karen Bass a proud Angelino that has represented Los Angeles in both Sacramento and Washington, DC for more than 14 years.
Parade spectators are welcome to line the streets and enjoy the festivities in person if they are wearing masks, fully vaccinated, have no Covid symptoms, and haven’t come in contact with anyone with Covid. Parade organizers are asking the community to keep each other safe so they can bring back a since of normalcy during this unnormal time.
The Kingdom Day Parade features more than 150 units with over 3,000 individuals which includes the
“Kingdom Day Parade Queen & Her Court”, marching bands, high school & middle school drill teams, novelty acts, equestrian units, and a wide array of celebrities, sports figures, and community leaders.
About the Kingdom Day Parade
The Kingdom Day Parade was conceived more than 30 years ago by the late Larry Grant and businessman Celes King III as a small neighborhood tribute to the life, work, dream, and spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It was launched on the streets of South LA about the same time as another local hero; Stevie Wonder, was culminating a successful nationwide effort that resulted in Dr. King’s birthday becoming a National Holiday, on the third Monday in January every year. Our original group of sponsors and participants have nurtured those humble beginnings which persisted every year, until it evolved into the major iconic event that it has become today. Remaining on the same inner-city streets it began on. The Parade is committed to nurturing Dr. King’ s spirit for equality of life, using love and nonviolence.
